Do These Stripes Make Me Look Fat?

If you're a woman who has ever worried about looking fat (so, most women...), you've undoubtedly heard the advice "Never wear horizontal stripes!"

In an effort to minimize our bodies and take up less space like the good little women we should be (I'm not about to go on a feminist rant, I swear, though I definitely could), a lot of women desperately buy into any optical illusion they can. Those stripes or that large print or that tight bodycon skirt might be cute, but you don't want your body to look like the size that it is! The horror!

A really pivotal part of my self-confidence revolution involved disengaging from the mindset that demands I try to hide and shrink my body as much as possible. I think that as long as you play into the toxic idea that your clothes need to be flattering, or "suit your body type", or whatever other such nonsense, you'll never feel fully comfortable with you. Convincing my self that my fat body, every roll and stretch mark and dimple, is perfect just as it is has allowed me to recognize how utterly ridiculous all the silly fashion rules imposed on women are.

So, wear horizontal stripes! Find the tightest skirt you can and accentuate your glorious belly! Wear sleeveless dresses and shirts and let those glorious upper arms sway! Wear short dresses that flaunt your cellulited thighs! Wear what you want and FUCK flattering!

Dress is XXL from Target, belt included

  1. You are such a beautiful person inside and out, so inspiring!
I love wearing stripes, but when I do people always say things like "I couldn't wear that because it would make me look wider" and I'm like 1. who cares? and 2. why is that a problem? You just speak so much truth and you look stunning in that dress. (◕ω◕✿)
